Spotlight on Les Bois du Bardelet, a Les Castels campsite
Nestled between the forests of Sologne and the vineyards of the Loire Valley, this five-star Castel Camping, with its charming chalets overlooking peaceful lakes, offers the perfect setting for unforgettable family holidays.
Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Béatrice Pigeon, and I am the daughter of the founder of the site.
What is your role at Les Bois du Bardelet campsite?
I am the director and owner-operator of Les Bois du Bardelet campsite.
How long has the campsite existed? Could you describe it?
Les Bois du Bardelet has existed for 52 years. It was originally a farm that was transformed into a residential park with 40 pitches and, for the past 42 years, it has developed into a holiday estate.

Three things people may not realise about running a campsite
We actually work all year round. Some projects can take five to ten years to come to life. My own house, for example, required a long administrative process before I could build exactly what I wanted on the property. And then there is all the landscaping work needed to keep the site looking beautiful in summer – much of that work happens during the winter.
Have you ever welcomed a famous guest?
GDPR… I’ll pass on that one, as it’s confidential!
What has been your best season, and why?
There are actually two. The first is always the one that has just ended — the most recent season always feels like the best one.
And then there was 2009, the year my son was born. I spent my third trimester working on the campsite, and he arrived at the end of September. It was truly the season’s most wonderful gift.
What is your next project?
I am currently trying to install electric vehicle charging stations. It is a major project because it requires partners and a significant increase in electrical capacity.
What is your biggest concern?
That incivility and irresponsibility might continue to increase year after year.
Your greatest pride?
Being able to manage this site on my own and keeping everything on course so that guests continue to be just as happy with their stay.
Your greatest achievement?
Still being here.
Your most unusual anecdote?
One day, a swan came knocking at the door. We ended up adopting it. It stayed for several years, raised its family on our two lakes, and eventually left again. For a while, it truly became part of the life of the estate.
Your passion?
Wild nature.
In your opinion, what does it mean to be part of Les Castels?
Luxury means space, and always being able to maintain a direct relationship with our guests.
