History of Château de la Ville Huchet - Les Castels 🌊⛱️
A Saint-Malo campsite built around a romantic château
It all began in the 19th century, when the Magon de La Villehuchet family, famous Malouin merchants, had a superb neo-Renaissance château built. Round towers topped with pepper pots, elegant facades and wooded parklands create the backdrop for a residence full of charm.
From day-care centre to luxury campsite on the Emerald Coast
Over the decades, the château changed vocation. After the Second World War, it became a day-care centre, donated to the town by Guy Lachambre, mayor of Saint-Malo. But the storm of 1987 caused major damage: the roof was damaged, water seeped in, and the château ceased to be inhabited. But the story doesn't end there. In 1998, the Domaine des Ormes, a famous campsite in Brittany, bought the site. At the time, Domaine de la Ville Huchet was just a two-star campsite. Thanks to ambitious renovation work, it underwent a spectacular transformation.
Domaine de la Ville Huchet campsite takes off
Under the management of Arnaud du Domaine des Ormes, and then Gaël du Jonchay from 2004, the campsite has developed rapidly. With new accommodation, the creation of a privateer-themed water park and upgraded facilities, the campsite has moved upmarket. In 2006, it was awarded its third star, followed by the fourth in 2008. Domaine de la Ville Huchet is now firmly established as a top holiday destination in Saint-Malo.
A nature holiday in a wooded park
Domaine de la Ville Huchet's main attraction is its setting. Set in 6 hectares of wooded parkland, it offers a haven of greenery just 6 km from the beaches of Saint-Malo, on the Emerald Coast.
