Discovering Domaine de Sévenier & SPA Campsite

Today, Sophie, the manager of Domaine de Sévenier, shares her favourite memories with us. A former wine estate transformed into a chalet village, this 5-star Les Castels campsite promises idyllic holidays in the heart of Ardèche.

Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Sophie. I am the owner’s daughter. I have known Domaine de Sévenier since its very beginnings, and I only wish the very best for our guests.

What is your role within your Les Castels campsite?

I am responsible for organising, welcoming, preparing, anticipating, innovating, observing, advising, planning, supporting, communicating and reacting on a daily basis — all for the well-being of the campsite and our guests.

How long has your campsite existed? Could you describe it?

Domaine de Sévenier has existed since 2009. It is a peaceful estate with 56 chalets, offering breathtaking views, characterful buildings, and wood and stone everywhere.
It is a human-scale site, entirely pedestrian and car-free. We have a unique spa set on a hillside of centuries-old oak trees, featuring a bubble sauna and beautiful views over the vineyards.
Our restaurant offers refined, gourmet cuisine, using as many local products as possible, and its terrace overlooks the swimming pool and the Ibie Valley.

Our activities are closely linked to nature and local heritage: tree climbing, land art, creating objects from natural elements, artistic interventions in the trees using wool, wine and local produce tastings, and an aromatic herb garden. Our reception team takes great care of our guests, accompanying them throughout their stay — from their chalet to the spa, and even when booking visits or activities.

In three words, how would you define your campsite? Serenity, harmony and attentiveness. Three things people don’t know about running a campsite?

Versatility above all. Taking constant care of guests, having a highly developed sense of hospitality… and being absolutely impeccable when it comes to maintenance.

Have you ever hosted a celebrity?

All my guests are celebrities!

What has been your best season, and why?

Honestly, it was the one with zero disputes. That’s when I truly felt a sense of 100% success.

What is your next project?

We have purchased a new piece of land of around one and a half hectares, completely wild. The idea is simply to clear it and preserve its natural state.
We would like to create small “chill” areas, with large catamaran nets installed between the trees to form suspended structures.

We would also like to set up a small mountain biking trail, as my son is part of a MTB club and very attached to it — and the land is perfectly suited to it.

What is your greatest fear?

A heart attack occurring on the estate.

Your greatest pride?

Beyond the compliments we receive after the holidays, my greatest pride was when someone told me they had never seen a company with such perfect harmony within the team. That truly means a lot.

Your greatest achievement?

Being able to smile every single day.

Your craziest anecdote?

One day, my son was four years old. I was having an aperitif with friends in the restaurant courtyard. At the time, there was a small hole in the pool fence (which has, of course, since been repaired).
He slipped through with his cousin to throw stones into the water. Suddenly, I heard a guest running and shouting, “There’s a child drowning!”

I ran straight to the pool. Thankfully, a guest who was having lunch at the restaurant jumped the fence and pulled my son out of the water.
When I heard him cough and held him in my arms, I felt an immense sense of relief. In the end, it was more fear than harm. No trauma — everything is absolutely fine.

What are your passions?

I have many. One of them is directly used here at the estate: I trained for four years in shiatsu, which I now practise in our wellness area.
I also occasionally offer oil massages.

I am also passionate about ceramics. I invested in equipment and run workshops for guests, in the form of individual sessions, allowing me to share this passion.
And I enjoy sport a great deal — I am a very active person.

In your opinion, what does it mean to be a “Castels”?

Being part of Les Castels means, above all, offering a privileged and highly personalised welcome, with constant attentiveness so that guests truly feel at home and cared for.

It also means space, and a clear desire to focus on quality rather than quantity.
It involves a great deal of maintenance, the use of noble materials, and a strong connection to the local terroir.
And above all, authenticity. These are the values that truly matter.
